The Codex Gernsbeckensis tells the story about how the Aztecs were once terrorized by a race of bloodthirsty creatures known to them as the Spawn of Quetzalcoatl.
Even though hunted by the bravest warriors, the Spawn continued to kill many innocent people by sucking out their blood - until one day a smart man discovered that they can easily be caught by offering them cocoa beans.

The name refers to the fact that this codex can be found in the National History Museum of Gernsbeck. It has always been there since the adventurer Gideon W. Haveland obtained it - with the exception of a few years during WWII. The museum got the order to send the codex to Peenemünde, where it then temporarily became part of the private collection of one of the researchers working there...

Hey, if a box counts as a character around here, so does a Mesoamerican codex...

Yep, some things never change, no matter if we are in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica or modern day Austria... ;-)

And in hindsight yeah, I could have simply given the guy with the cocoa bean idea a name and let him be this entry's character...
